“Our mission is to govern the legal profession, to serve our members, and to protect the public interest.”
“Mental health and wellness in the legal profession has recently taken a renewed focus, and May is Mental Health Awareness month. The May issue of Nevada Lawyer magazine gives an overview of the resources available to help legal professionals who may be dealing with the stress of their jobs in an unhealthy way.”
More than 13,000 working lawyers responded to the survey, and reported that:
• 28 percent of lawyers suffered from depression.
• 19 percent of lawyers had severe anxiety.
• 11.4 percent of lawyers had suicidal thoughts in the previous year.

Prevalence of Mental Health Disorders – First Responders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Studies show 30% of first responders experience symptoms of PTSD. This is about 5 times the rate seen in the general population.
- Depression: Around 20-30% of first responders report dealing with depression. This is significantly higher than the national average of 7% for adults.
- Suicide Rates: According to the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance (FBHA), suicide rates among first responders are 4 times higher than the general population. In 2019, there were 229 firefighter suicides alone in the U.S.
- Substance Abuse: 25% of first responders struggle with alcohol dependency, which often stems from coping with the psychological toll of their work.
- Chronic Stress and Burnout: First responders often experience emotional exhaustion and compassion fatigue, both of which can contribute to poor mental health and decision-making under pressure.
