Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health Well-being, and Mental Health Wellness are interconnected but distinct ideas within the broader framework of mental health, each contributing significantly to overall mental health. Here’s how we differentiate and apply these concepts in our organization.
Mental Health Awareness
- Definition: Mental health awareness refers to the understanding and recognition of mental health issues within a community or society.
- Focus: The Foundation’s focus is on educating people about mental health conditions and stressing the importance of seeking help. We also seek to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and to highlight the opportunities and resources available.
- Purpose: Our goal is to bring more awareness to the community so individuals can recognize mental health issues in themselves and others and feel empowered to act.
Mental Well-Being
- Definition: Mental health well-being is the overall state of an individual’s mental health, encompassing emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
- Focus: The Foundation’s focus is to encourage the development of skills to help people function well in their daily lives, to adequately cope with stress, to recover from setbacks, and to maintain healthy relationships.
- Purpose: Our goal is to ensure that individuals have the resources, resilience, and support needed to maintain a balanced and positive mental state.
Mental Health Wellness
- Definition: Mental health wellness is often used interchangeably with mental health well-being, but it specifically emphasizes the proactive maintenance and enhancement of mental health.
- Focus: Wellness is about engaging in behaviors that contribute to a positive mental state, such as regular self-care, including healthy diet and exercise. Wellness is also about maintaining healthy relationships, accomplishing one’s goals, and living a meaningful life.
- Purpose: Our goal is to encourage and support healthy and balanced mental and emotional health.
